50 days to go!

In exactly 50 days, the ninth IAAF Diamond League season will get underway at the Qatar Sports Club in Doha.

As in all the previous eight seasons, the IAAF Diamond League will begin its journey across the world in Qatar, as the world’s finest athletes head to Doha on the 4th May.

From Doha, the series will head to all four corners of the globe, crossing four continents and twelve countries on the Road To The Final.

Athletes have the opportunity to pick up points in twelve qualifying meetings as they battle it out for a place in the IAAF Diamond League Final at the end of the season.

The two Finals will take place in Zurich and Brussels on the 30th and 31st August, but the journey begins in Doha in 50 days time.

If history is anything to go by, it will be a rip-roaring start to the season. In recent years, Doha has seen jaw-dropping performances from the world’s biggest track and field stars.

Who can forget the astonishing triple jump duel between Christian Taylor and Pedro Pablo Pichardo in 2015, in which both men cleared 18 metres?

A year later, a certain Omar McLeod announced his arrival on the outdoor circuit as he surged to victory in the 110 metre hurdles just months before claiming Olympic Gold.

And last year, Thomas Röhler made history with an enormous throw of 93.90m, breaking a Diamond League record and setting the bar for an extraordinary season in the javelin.

To find out which athletes will be kickstarting this year’s Road To The Final, keep an eye on the IAAF Diamond League website and social media channels in the coming weeks.
