1. Four in the running in the high jump
The men’s high jump is the most open of all the Diamond Races, with only six points separating the top four of Bogdan Bondarenko, Erik Kynard, Robbie Grabarz and Mutaz Barshim. If, as is likely, one of those four wins on the night in Brussels, then they will take the Diamond Trophy.
3 days until #BrusselsDL! Will Bogdan #Bondarenko claim the #DiamondTrophy?
2. Can Schippers steal a double?
Dafne Schippers’ second place finish in Zürich was enough to secure her the Diamond Trophy in the 200m, and the Dutchwoman will be going after a Diamond League double in Brussels. She is up against it, however, as Elaine Thompson now has an eight point lead. If Thompson finishes in the top two, she will take the Diamond Trophy.
3. Rotich and Bosse face off
Whatever happens in Brussels, there will be a first-time Diamond Race winner in the 800m, as neither Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich nor Pierre-Ambroise Bosse have won the title before. The two men have been neck-and-neck in the standings for most of the season, and the Kenyan currently holds a six-point lead. That means the pressure is on Bosse, who will almost certainly need to win in order to take the Diamond Trophy.
4. Doyle out to match Muir
Laura Muir snatched Diamond Race victory in the women’s 1500m in Zürich, and Eilidh Doyle could become the second Scot in two weeks to get their hands on the Diamond Trophy. Currently six points ahead of Cassandra Tate in the women’s 400m hurdles standings, Doyle needs only to finish ahead of Tate to secure the title.
5. Gao and Lapierre in final battle
Deadlocked on 24 points each, Xinglong Gao and Fabrice Lapierre occupy first and second place in the men’s long jump standings ahead of Brussels, with the Chinese athlete ahead on number of victories. The two will go head to head for the Diamond Trophy on Friday, though if both falter, Damar Forbes could still make up the seven point gap from third place to take a surprise victory.
