Jacobs and Mu head to Eugene after Olympic triumph

Fresh from his sensational 100m gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, Lamont Marcell Jacobs will be hitting the track at the Eugene Diamond League on August 21st.

Lamont Marcell Jacobs stunned the world when he ran a European record of 9.80 to take a shock gold medal in the men’s 100m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on Sunday.

An outsider ahead of the Games, the Italian can now set his sights on further accolades this year, including the Wanda Diamond League title in September.

Fresh from his Tokyo exploits, Jacobs will return to action at the Eugene Diamond League on August 21st, as he takes on the likes of Justin Gatlin, Cravon Gillespie and fellow Tokyo finalists Ronnie Baker and Fred Kerley at the Prefontaine Classic.

The 26-year-old will be hoping to pick up his first career Diamond League win and nail down a place in the Wanda Diamond League final on September 8th and 9th.

Eugene will also host another Tokyo champion as Athing Mu, who won gold in the women’s 800m on Tuesday, takes on the likes of Kate Grace and Ajee Wilson. The 19-year-old prodigy will make her seriesdebut as she bids to transform Olympic glory into Diamond League success.

There will also be fireworks in the men’s middle distance events, as reigning Diamond League champion Timothy Cheruiyot takes on rising star Jakob Ingebrigtsen as well as home hero and 2016 Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz in the Bowerman Mile.

In the women’s 3000m steeplechase, meanwhile, US star Emma Coburn will take on world record holder and 2018 and 2019 Diamond Trophy winner Beatrice Chepkoech in what could prove to be a record-breaking clash.

Earlier this month Coburn appeared to be on pace to give the U.S. its first member of the exclusive sub-9 club, but she stumbled over the final waterjump in the Monaco Diamond League meet. She got up and still recorded a sub-9:10 time for the 13th time at 9:09.02.
