In the women’s 200m, Olympic champion Elaine Thompson will face silver medallist and world champion Dafne Schippers. The rivalry between the two was one of the highlights of last season, with each winning a Diamond Trophy in the sprint disciplines in 2016.
In the men’s triple jump, there is a battle of long-standing rivals as Christian Taylor faces Will Claye. Taylor once told the IAAF that Claye was his greatest rival: "It is a pretty special rivalry because we came through the ranks together at school."
Both Kirani James and Lashawn Merritt have also got plenty of Diamond League pedigree. Merritt claimed the Diamond Trophy in the 400m last season, but his duels with James have always been a joy to behold.
In the high jump, two-time Diamond Trophy winner Mutaz Essa Barshim will be looking to reclaim his trophy after losing it to Erik Kynard last season. The two stars will go head to head in Doha as Barshim looks to get a victory on home soil for the first time in the Diamond League.
One of the most brilliant Diamond League duels of last season came between Ruth Jebet and Hyvin Kiyeng in the women’s 3000m steeplechase. Both kept winning at alternate meetings in a thrilling battle, which Jebet eventually won, picking up a world record in Paris as she did so. They will resume their battle in Doha.
