The Wanda Diamond League 2020 calendar continues to take shape as Athletissima meeting announced plans on Tuesday to host a star-studded pole vault clash in Lausanne on September 2.
Held at Place de l’Europe in the centre of the Swiss city, the event will see the world’s top pole vault superstars go head to head in one of the first competitions of the year where official results will be registered.
In the men’s event, world record holder Mondo Duplantis will face Diamond League record champion Renaud Lavillenie and reigning world champion Sam Kendricks, with Polish stars Piotr Lisek and Pawel Wojciechowski also on the entry list.
In the parallel women’s event, world and Olympic champion Katerina Stefanidi is set to take on American rival and Diamond League record holder Sandi Morris, as well as other stars such as Canada’s Alysha Newman.
The two events will take place in parallel on separate tracks, with alternating jumps between the men’s and women’s competitions.
The pole vault clash is one of a number of Wanda Diamond League exhibition events this year, in a revised calendar which began last week with the Bislett Impossible Games in Oslo.
Due to travel constraints and health concerns, a full Diamond League season will not be held this year, and athletes will not compete for a place in the final and a shot at the Diamond Trophy.
