Following the announcement of Sifan Hassan, Yulimar Rojas and Pascal Martinot-Lagarde last week, Meeting Herculis organisers revealed on Tuesday that US sprint star Noah Lyles and Swedish-American pole vault sensation Mondo Duplantis will also be competing in Monaco next month.
Double Diamond League champion Lyles will return to the Stade Louis II in the men’s 200m, two years after he set a new meeting record of 19.65 at the stadium on his way to the 200m Diamond League title in 2018.
Duplantis meanwhile will make his second appearance in Monaco, having come second to Piotr Lisek at Herculis last year, despite jumping an impressive 5.92. The Swedish star has since gone on to establish himself as the new king of the pole vault, breaking the world record twice last February.
Other stars who will also hit the track in Monaco this year include Germany’s Konstanze Klosterhalfen, who will line up in the women’s 5000m.
The 23-year-old claimed the bronze medal in the 5000m at the World Championships in Doha last autumn, just months after recording her first ever Diamond League win with a meeting and national record of 4:12.11 in the mile at Birmingham.
Ugandan star Joshua Cheptegei was also already confirmed last week, and he will now be joined by compatriot and 800m world champion Halimah Nakaayi.
Following her triumph in Doha last year, Nakaayi returns to action as the woman to beat over800m, and will be out to claim her second ever win on the Diamond League circuit.
Meeting Herculis was originally scheduled to take place on July 10, but was postponed until August 14 due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
It now forms part of the re-organised Wanda Diamond League calendar for 2020, which can be viewed in full here.
