Almost 30 medallists from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will return to action in the Wanda Diamond League at the Meeting de Paris on August 28th, as the world’s best athletes look to add the Diamond Trophy to their Olympic gongs.in 2021.
Double gold medallist in the women’s sprints, Elaine Thompson-Herah will take on compatriot and 100m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson in the women’s 100m, while the men’s sprint silver medallists Fred Kerley and Kenneth Bednarek will go head to head in the men’s 200m.
Fresh from his first major global title in Tokyo, pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis will be looking to win his first ever Diamond League title this season, and will take on Sam Kendricks and Renaud Lavillenie in Paris.
Kendricks, who was ruled out of the Tokyo final after a positive coronavirus test, is one of a number of global stars who will be hoping to bounce back from Olympic disappointment with Diamond League success in the coming weeks. Others include British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, who will line up in the 200m in Paris, and six-time Diamond League champion Sandra Perkovic, who narrowly missed out on the podium in Japan.
Moroccan men’s steeplechase gold medallist will go head to head with his Kenyan rivals once again in Paris as he takes on world champion Conseslus Kipruto and bronze medallist Benjamin Kigen, while Mariya Lasitskene goes up against Yaroslava Mahuchikh in another Tokyo final rematch in the women’s high jump.
Other Olympic champions competing at the Stade Charléty include Valerie Allman (women’s discus), sprint hurdlers Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Hansle Parchment and Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra.
